The initiative to introduce standards of nutrition in public use, as a project aimed at improving the care of vulnerable population categories, promoting quality of life and improving the standards and quality of services in the tourism and catering sectors – opens up an opportunity to develop a new model of regulation of internal relationships within the system. The fact that this is a new development in Croatia, and that this complex method is based mostly on the European Union acquis communautaire and best practice in this field, calls for additional explanation of some key areas.
The Healthy Meal Standard is the first comprehensive model of standardization and certification in public (tourist) facilities, in line with global and national nutritional guidelines. It is not a standard of prestige but a standard of need. It depends of a facility will it use Healthy Meal Standard as their marketing and competitive advantage or not.
All of this suggests that there are great opportunities and needs that this concept can accommodate, by improving the dietary conditions of the above mentioned groups in European and World population.
Healthy Meal Standard uses scientifically proven and valid nutrition recommendations from national, European and world scientific and public health organizations and has unique method of analysis, implementation, certification and maintenance.
